I've always been goal-oriented. I grew up on Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, and Darren Hardy who all seem to share the same philosophy, those people with goals are usually happier than those who are merely just drifting through life.

Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
Another way of thinking about goals is the difference between a fixed and growth mindset. People with a fixed mindset get to a point in their life and feel like it's impossible to change anything whereas a growth mindset person would be willing to tear their entire lives apart for the chance of things becoming better on the other side.
I feel like most people have a fixed mindset, life punches us in the face, and we become caught up in the motions and the next thing we know, it's been a decade and we're still in the same place.
Or you just find yourself comfortable and the change needed to get results is too much hassle or doesn't seem worth the cost, so we just keep things status quo.
When You're Ready To Grow
The fact remains, the moment you decide you're tired of living the way you are is the same moment the world says, "Finally, let's get to work," and you're finally able to do more, it's getting to that moment that is the hardest. For me, this growth came in the form of goal setting, specifically, Darren Hardy's Living Your Best Year Ever goals system.
Living Your Best Year Ever
The program consists of reflecting and establishing where you are and then moves to create 10 goals in 8 areas of your life so that you can become a well-balanced individual. The system then moves into the habits and designing the person you need to become to achieve your goals. Afterward, you break each week into a system where you document all your progress to keep you focused and accountable for the actions you promised yourself you would do.
I've been using this system for nearly a decade now, I even host a yearly meeting with close friends and then meet monthly for check-ins to keep ourselves focused and clear on what matters in my life each year.
