A vision statement is aspirational that expresses your brand's plan for the future and potential impact on the world. It often serves as a guide for a brand's future goals and explains why customers and employees should stick around.

Know Why You Started In The First Place
When you first launch a software organization, you could find yourself and your ideas scattered. Writing a vision statement can help keep your priorities straight when things get busy and create clarity around where you want the organization to move in the future.
When you begin to design your vision statement, the first step is knowing your purpose, and as Simon Sinek shares in his TedTalk, How Great Leaders Inspire Action, your why.
A Few Questions To Ask Yourself
When you're ready to start writing your vision statement, have a clear idea of what motivates and drives you. What are the goals that keep you up at night? What does success look like for you?
Think about the kind of person drawn to your business and why. What do they need from it? How will working with them fulfill something in your life or bring out something unique about yourself?
Once again, remember that this is not just a list of things; rather, think carefully about how each item reflects an aspect of what makes up "you" as a person as well as the rest of your team.
The Importance Of A Vision Statement
Without a vision statement, your business will lack the desire and motivation to keep going. Everyone wants to feel like they are a part of something bigger, that their life has some tangible meaning, so the clearer you can get on your vision, the more likely you are to entice people to join your journey.
A concise vision statement also allows your prospects to be able to make a clear decision about whether they believe in what you are building and find it valuable to them.
As Simon eluded above, your vision statement serves as a beacon. Anytime you find yourself or your team heading in the wrong direction or questioning why you are even here, your vision should be able to bring you back and remind you of why you are doing what you are doing.
How to Design An Inspiring Vision Statement
When starting out, be okay with dreaming big and making bold declarations. The vision statement doesn't need to be something you are doing or can achieve in the next 6 months.
A vision statement should be you looking out into the future and asking yourself, "If there is one thing I want to see done differently in 15, 20, 50 years, what would that reality look like, and what could I create that would allow us to make it possible?"
When thinking of your own vision statement, here are some examples to help you start thinking big:

Concluding Thoughts
Your vision statement should be a living and breathing document. The world is constantly changing, and so are you and your team as you adapt to and experience different things. As you change, your vision could possibly change as well.
Your vision statement is designed to inspire you to reach your full potential. When designing your vision, don't put limits on what it could be, be willing to bend reality. If it doesn't scare you, it's probably not big enough.
